Port Mapper needs local network access so it can find your router and publish the rules you create. macOS may ask for this permission the first time you use the app.
Why Port Mapper asks for local network access
Port Mapper works with your local network to publish port mappings on your router. Without local network access, the app may not be able to discover your router or apply your enabled rules.
What happens if I deny access?
If local network access is denied, rules may stay pending or unmapped. You can allow access later in macOS System Settings.
How to allow local network access later
- Open System Settings on your Mac.
- Go to Privacy & Security.
- Open Local Network.
- Find Port Mapper and turn it on.
- Return to Port Mapper and refresh or re-publish your rules.
Your saved rules
The rules you create are saved on your Mac so Port Mapper can show them the next time you open the app.
What Port Mapper does not do
- Port Mapper does not create a public server by itself. The app or service must already be running on your Mac.
- Port Mapper does not bypass router, firewall, or internet provider restrictions.
- Port Mapper does not replace manual router configuration if your router does not allow automatic mappings.
