This article explains common messages and issues you may see while using Image Converter.
This file format is not supported
The file you added is not one of the supported image formats.
Supported formats are PNG, JPG, JPEG, TIFF, TIF, GIF, BMP, and JP2.
The image could not be opened
The file has a supported extension, but macOS could not read it as an image.
Try opening the image in Preview. If Preview cannot open it, the file may be damaged or may not be a valid image file.
The image could not be encoded in the selected format
The app could not convert the image into the selected output format.
Try a different output format. You can also try opening the image in Preview and exporting it to a common format such as PNG or JPEG first.
The converted image could not be saved
The app could not write the converted image to the selected location.
Check that:
- You have permission to save to the selected folder.
- The destination drive is connected and writable.
- There is enough free disk space.
- The destination file is not locked or in use by another app.
Bulk mode skipped files
Bulk mode skips files that are unsupported, unreadable, or already in the list.
If files are skipped, confirm that they use a supported extension and can be opened normally in Preview.
Bulk conversion finished with failures
If Bulk mode finishes with one or more failures, check the status shown on each image row. Files may fail if they cannot be opened, encoded, or saved.
Other files may still convert successfully even if one file fails.
The Convert button is disabled
The convert button is disabled until there is work to do.
- In Single mode, add an image first.
- In Bulk mode, add at least one image first.
Converted files replaced existing files
If a converted output file has the same name as an existing file in the destination folder, the save operation may replace the existing file.
To avoid this, choose an empty destination folder or rename existing files before converting.
