Use this guide to solve common Chessic issues. If your issue is not listed, submit a support request.
Forges and Gameplay
A forge is locked
- "Complete Apprentice first." (or another forge): forges unlock in order. Play a board in the previous forge to the end, whether you clear it or it cools, to open the next one. Restarting or quitting a board does not count.
- "Included with Chessic Unlimited.": Artisan and Master need Chessic Unlimited in single player. See Chessic Unlimited.
There are no gold marks on the board
Gold marks show the squares the piece you just struck can reach. If none remain, the forge has cooled and the board is over. Your score still counts. Cleared squares cannot be struck, so routes that leave a few squares isolated near the end tend to cool. Try planning your last layer earlier.
A bishop, rook, or queen cannot reach a square I expected
These pieces move to the farthest square in each direction, not any square along the line. If the farthest square in a direction has cleared, that direction is not available. See How to Play Chessic for every piece's move.
I never get the perfect sequence bonus
The perfect sequence needs the numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4 in that order. Number 4 first appears in Artisan, so this bonus cannot be earned in Apprentice or Journeyman.
"The forge sputtered before the board was ready"
Chessic could not prepare a board. Choose Try Again for a fresh one. If it keeps happening, restart the app and send a support request with your device and Chessic version.
My time score kept dropping while I was away
Pausing a single-player forge stops the clock, and leaving the app during a single-player forge opens the pause menu. A duel's clock never stops; see Duels and Duel Rating.
Duels and Game Center
Duel is dimmed on Home
Duels need Game Center. On iPhone and iPad, open the Settings app and sign in to Game Center. On a Mac, open System Settings and sign in to Game Center. Then return to Chessic.
The Game Center sign-in prompt does not appear again
Once the Game Center sign-in sheet is dismissed, apps cannot show it again until they are relaunched. Sign in from the Settings app (iPhone and iPad) or System Settings (Mac) instead.
"Matchmaking is unavailable right now" or "Matchmaking failed. Try again."
- Check your internet connection.
- Confirm that you are signed in to Game Center.
- Wait a moment and try again. Matchmaking needs another player searching at the same time.
I cannot find an opponent when I choose a forge
Players who pick a forge are paired with Quick Duel players or with players who picked the same forge. Two players who picked different forges are never paired. Choose Quick Duel to widen the search.
"Your opponent is on an incompatible version"
Duels need both players on a compatible version of Chessic. Update Chessic from the App Store and ask your opponent to update too.
"Your opponent left before the duel began" or "Could not start the duel."
The connection was lost before the board was ready. Nothing is recorded and your rating does not change. Start a new duel.
I lost a duel because I left the app
A duel is played live, so switching away from Chessic during a duel concedes it. A rated duel conceded this way counts as a loss. Avoid leaving the app until the duel ends.
My duel rating did not change
Duels that start from an invitation are friendly and unrated. Their results show Friendly duel ยท unrated. Only Quick Duels and duels with a chosen forge found through matchmaking are rated.
My duel rating looks different on another device
Your rating is stored with Game Center. After you sign in, Chessic adopts the newest rating Game Center has. Make sure both devices are signed in to the same Game Center account and have an internet connection.
Achievements or leaderboard scores are missing
- Confirm that you are signed in to Game Center. Achievements and scores earned while signed out are not sent later.
- Game Center can take a few minutes to show new scores and achievements.
- Leaderboards keep your best single-player score for each forge, so a lower score does not replace a higher one.
Records and Replays
My record is not on my other device
- Sign in to iCloud with the same Apple Account on both devices.
- Allow some time. iCloud may take a while to deliver changes, especially right after installing Chessic.
- The Records footnote says Synced with iCloud when syncing is available, or Stored on this device when it is not.
My game history is not on my other device
The game history and its replays stay on the device where the games were played. Your record and statistics sync through iCloud; the history does not.
A game disappeared from History
History keeps your latest 100 games. Older games leave the history unless you keep them; you can keep up to 20 games for good. A record reset also clears the history on all your devices.
"This replay can't be played."
Chessic could not rebuild that game. The game still counts in your record and statistics. If this happens with recent games, send a support request with your device and Chessic version.
"Only 20 games can be kept. Release one to keep this."
You already keep the maximum number of games. Open a kept game in History, choose Release, and then keep the new one.
Purchases
Chessic Unlimited is not unlocked after buying it
- Make sure you are signed in with the Apple Account used for the purchase.
- Open Settings in Chessic.
- Choose Restore Purchases.
If you see "Purchase completed, but Chessic Unlimited is not active yet.", wait a moment and restore again.
"No Chessic Unlimited purchase was found."
The App Store account on this device has no Chessic Unlimited purchase. Check that you are signed in with the Apple Account you used to buy it. On iPhone and iPad, check Settings > [your name] > Media & Purchases; on a Mac, check the App Store's account page.
"Purchase failed. Try again later." or "Restore failed. Try again later."
The App Store could not complete the request. Check your internet connection and try again later. You are never charged for a purchase that did not complete.
Display and Sound
There is no music or sound
- Open Settings in Chessic and check the Music and Sound Effects sliders.
- On iPhone, check the Ring/Silent switch or Action button and the device volume.
- On Mac, check the system output volume and device.
The Play of the Game replay does not appear
Check Settings > Games > Play of the Game. When it is off, the results still show the Play of the Game card and its Watch Again button. Games you forfeit by leaving the app, the tutorial, and duels without any of your strikes have no Play of the Game replay.
Before Contacting Support
