This article covers Chessic's settings, keyboard and Mac controls, and accessibility support.
Settings
Open Settings from Home, or from the pause menu while playing.
Audio
- Music: the volume of the menu and forge music.
- Sound Effects: the volume of hammer strikes and other effects.
Games
- Play of the Game: replays your best moment when a game ends. Turn it off to go straight to the results.
Chessic Unlimited
Buy Chessic Unlimited or choose Restore Purchases. Once it is active, this section shows Unlocked.
Game Center
Shows whether you are signed in to Game Center. Sign in or out from the Settings app (iPhone and iPad) or System Settings (Mac).
The bottom of Settings shows your Chessic version and build number. Include it when you contact support.
Playing on iPhone and iPad
- Tap a square to strike it.
- Tap Pause at the top of the board to open the pause menu.
- Chessic works in portrait and landscape, in Split View and Slide Over on iPad, and on screens with a notch or Dynamic Island.
Playing on a Mac
Click a square to strike it. Chessic also supports these keyboard shortcuts:
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
| Escape | Pause a board, resume from the pause menu, return to a finished board's results, go back from a page, close a replay, skip the Play of the Game, or cancel a dialog |
| Return | Choose the highlighted (gold) button in a dialog or the results |
| Command-Comma (⌘,) | Open Settings |
| Command-Question Mark (⌘?) | Open How to Play |
| Tab | Move between buttons when Keyboard Navigation is on in System Settings |
Settings, Pause, and How to Play are also in the menu bar: Chessic > Settings…, Game > Pause, and Help > How to Play. They are available where the matching on-screen button is.
For replay shortcuts, see Replays and Play of the Game.
Accessibility
- VoiceOver: squares you can strike are buttons, and the board's score and status are read aloud. Replays announce each strike.
- Larger Text: menus, dialogs, and board labels follow your text size setting.
- Reduce Motion: Chessic uses gentler animations when Reduce Motion is on.
