Create or merge a PDF from files

Use Create / Merge PDF on Mac or Merge on iPhone and iPad to combine PDFs and supported image files into one PDF document.

Create a merged PDF

  1. Open PDF Split & Merge.
  2. On Mac, select Create / Merge PDF in the sidebar. On iPhone and iPad, select Merge.
  3. Click or tap Add Files... to select PDFs or supported images, or Add Photos... to select images from your photo library. You can also drag PDFs and images into the drop area.
  4. Review the file list.
  5. Reorder the files if needed.
  6. Choose how images are placed on pages in Page Settings.
  7. Click or tap Create PDF....
  8. On Mac, choose a name and location. On iPhone and iPad, wait for processing to finish and then choose a destination in the Files export sheet.

How file order works

The app creates the PDF in the same order shown in the file list. Files at the top are added first.

When selecting multiple photos, the app adds them in the order you select them. You can reorder them before creating the PDF.

How PDFs and images are handled

  • PDF files keep their pages and are appended to the output PDF.
  • Image files are converted into PDF pages using the Page Settings.
  • Multi-page TIFF files are added as multiple pages when possible.

Page Settings

Page Settings apply only to images. Pages from PDF files always keep their original size. The app remembers your choices.

  • Page Size: A3, A4, A5, B5, US Letter, US Legal, or Tabloid. Each image is scaled to fit the page without cropping. Choose Original Size to make each page the same size as its image. The default is US Letter or A4, depending on your region.
  • Orientation: Automatic uses a landscape page for wide images and a portrait page for tall images. You can also use Portrait or Landscape for every page.
  • Margins: None, Small (0.25 in), or Normal (0.5 in) of white space around each image.

Orientation and Margins are not available when Page Size is Original Size.

Default save name

The app suggests Merged.pdf. You can change the file name before saving.

If Create PDF is unavailable

The Create PDF... button requires at least one supported file. It is also unavailable while files or photos are being imported and while a PDF is being created.
