PDF Split & Merge supports different file types depending on the workflow you are using.
Split PDF input
The Split PDF section accepts PDF files.
Image export formats
When exporting PDF pages as images, you can choose:
- PNG
- JPEG
- GIF
- TIFF
- BMP
- JP2
Create / Merge PDF inputs
The Create / Merge PDF section accepts PDFs and supported image files, including:
- PDF:
pdf - Common image formats:
png,jpg,jpeg,gif,tiff,tif,bmp - Additional macOS-readable image formats:
fax,ai,dng,eps,fpx,hdr,ico,jp2,ps,psd,pict,pntg,qtif,rad,raw,sgi,tga,xbm,nef,pct
Why a supported file may still fail
A file may have a supported extension but still fail if macOS cannot read the file data, if the file is damaged, or if the app does not have permission to read it.
If files are skipped
If you see Some Files Were Skipped, one or more selected files were not supported by the merge workflow. Add only PDF files or supported image files.
