PDF Split & Merge supports different file types depending on the workflow you are using.

Split PDF input

Split PDF on Mac and Split on iPhone and iPad accept PDF files.

Image export formats

On iPhone and iPad, you can export PDF pages as:

  • PNG
  • JPEG

On Mac, you can export PDF pages as:

  • PNG
  • JPEG
  • GIF
  • TIFF
  • BMP
  • JP2

Merge inputs

Create / Merge PDF on Mac and Merge on iPhone and iPad accept PDF files and any image format your device can read, from Files and drag and drop. This includes:

  • PDF: pdf
  • Photos: heic, heif, jpg, jpeg, avif, webp
  • Other common images: png, gif, tiff, tif, bmp, jp2, ico
  • Professional formats, such as psd, tga, and camera RAW files like dng and nef

You can also use Add Photos... to import compatible images from the photo library.

HDR photos are converted to standard dynamic range when they are added to a PDF.

Why a supported file may still fail

A file may have a supported extension but still fail if the device cannot read the file data, if the file is damaged, if a cloud download is incomplete, or if the app does not have permission to read it.

If files are skipped

If you see Some Files Were Skipped, one or more selected files were not supported by the merge workflow. Add only PDF files or supported image files.
