Coindrel offers two ways to play another person in the same room without an online account: Nearby, with two devices, and Pass & Play, with one device.
Play Nearby
Nearby duels connect two devices directly. No Game Center account or internet connection is needed. iPhone, iPad, and Mac can play each other.
Before you start
- Keep both devices close together.
- Turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on both devices. Mac connects to nearby devices over Wi-Fi, so keep Wi-Fi on when playing with a Mac.
- Allow Local Network access when Coindrel asks. If you declined earlier, turn it on in the system's Privacy & Security settings.
- Both devices need a compatible version of Coindrel.
Host a duel
- Choose Multiplayer > Play Nearby > Host a Duel.
- Choose the time per turn and any variants, then choose Start Hosting.
- Your device appears to nearby players with its name and a short code. Ask the other player to choose Join a Duel.
Join a duel
- Choose Multiplayer > Play Nearby > Join a Duel.
- Choose the host from the list of nearby duels. Match the code with the one on the host's screen.
- Both players review the rules and choose Accept & Play.
Joining is always free, whatever rules the host chose. Hosting with Turbo, Holes, Halved final round, or Shuffled Exits requires Coindrel Unlimited.
During a nearby duel
Nearby duels work like online duels: seats are assigned at random, the clock keeps running when the menu is open, and leaving a duel in progress resigns. If the devices lose their connection, Coindrel tries to reconnect for up to 30 seconds in total. If it cannot, the match ends as No Contest. Both players can request a rematch from the results screen.
Pass & Play
Pass & Play lets two people share one iPhone, iPad, or Mac and pass it between turns.
- Choose Multiplayer > Pass & Play.
- Choose the time per turn and any variants.
- Choose Start Match. Player 1 drops first.
Pausing and saving
Pass & Play pauses and saves like Solo. Open the match menu or leave the app to pause; choose Continue Pass & Play on Home to resume. Pass & Play and Solo share one saved match, so starting either one replaces the other. Coindrel asks first.
Record
Because both players are on the same device, Pass & Play counts games played rather than wins and losses, and it has no statistics. With Coindrel Unlimited, Pass & Play matches appear in Match History with replays.
