This article explains the match screen, how to drop coins, the match menu, pausing and saving, and the results screen.
The Match Screen
The board fills most of the screen. The header, or the player panels beside the board on larger iPad and Mac windows, shows:
- The round number and that round's target
- Each player's round score and match total
- Whose turn it is, shown in that player's color and in words
- The decision clock for the current turn
Player 1 is teal and Player 2 is coral. The active player is always named in text as well, so turns never depend on color alone.
Dropping a Coin
iPhone and iPad
- Touch anywhere on the board and slide to aim. The coin follows the nearest entry.
- Lift your finger on the board to drop.
- Slide off the board and lift to cancel without dropping.
Mac
- Point at the board to aim, then click to drop.
- Or press 1 through 8 to drop in that entry immediately.
Drops are accepted only during your turn, while the clock is running. A quick double tap cannot drop two coins.
The Clock
Each turn's clock starts after the previous cascade finishes and any new round has been revealed. Cascades never use your time. If the clock runs out, your coin drops in a random entry. In Turbo, cascades also play at three times the normal speed.
The Match Menu
Open the menu with the menu button in the match header. On Mac and iPad with a keyboard, press Escape. The menu shows the round, the rules for this match, and these choices:
- Resume continues a Solo or Pass & Play match. Online and nearby matches show Back to Board.
- Restart Match starts a fresh board with the same rules (Solo and Pass & Play only). Restarting a Solo match after a coin has been dropped counts as a loss.
- Settings opens sound, haptics, and motion settings without leaving the match.
- Board Details describes every switch, hole, and exit as text. It appears when VoiceOver, the Accessible layout, or an accessibility text size is on.
- Save & Quit to Home keeps a Solo or Pass & Play match so you can continue later.
- Resign & Leave ends an online or nearby duel in progress; your opponent receives a casual win.
Pausing and Saving
Solo and Pass & Play matches pause when you open the match menu, return to Home, or leave the app. The remaining time on the turn is kept. When you come back, the match waits for you to choose Resume or Continue from Home.
- Coindrel keeps one saved offline match. Solo and Pass & Play share it.
- Starting another Solo or Pass & Play match replaces it. Coindrel asks before replacing a match in progress.
- Starting an online or nearby duel keeps your saved match. It is waiting for you when you return.
- If a saved match cannot be loaded, Coindrel deletes it and tells you so at launch.
Online and nearby duels never pause. While the menu is open, a banner reminds you that the clock is still running and shows the seconds left on the turn.
New Rounds
When a round ends, the old exit values sink away, a banner names the new round and its target, and the new values appear. With Holes, the holes move at the same time. The next clock starts only after this reveal.
Play of the Game
When a finished match has a standout drop, Coindrel replays it before the results as the Play of the Game. It can belong to either player. Choose Skip, or press Escape, Space, or Return, to go straight to the results. You can turn the automatic replay off in Settings > Matches > Play of the Game; the results still show the play with a Watch button.
Results
The results screen shows Victory, Defeat, or Draw (or which player won in Pass & Play), the margin, each player's total, and every round's target and scores. It can also show your updated record for that play style and, after a Quick Match, your rating change.
- Play Again starts a new offline match with the same rules and seats. The other player drops first.
- Request Rematch asks an online or nearby opponent for another match. When your opponent asks first, the button reads Accept Rematch.
- View Board shows the final board. Choose Results in the header to return.
- Watch Replay replays the match (Coindrel Unlimited).
- Main Menu returns to Home.
