Money Owed Pro adds new-transaction notifications and App Lock. These features are controlled separately: notification permission comes from the operating system, while App Lock protects access to the main app.
New-Transaction Notifications
Enable notifications
- Open Settings.
- Open Notifications.
- Turn on New transactions.
- Allow notifications for Money Owed in Settings on iPhone and iPad or System Settings on Mac when prompted.
Notifications are a Pro feature. The setting can synchronize through iCloud, but notification permission is granted separately on each device.
What sends an alert?
Money Owed creates an alert only when another person adds a new manual transaction to a shared account. The notification may show the transaction description and account name or the general message A new transaction was added.
Money Owed does not send a new-transaction alert for:
- Your own transactions
- Automatic transactions
- Automatic interest transactions
- Existing history downloaded with a new account
- Changes to an existing transaction
Delivery can be delayed
Notification delivery depends on iCloud, network access, notification permission, and whether the operating system allows Money Owed to receive updates in the background. Alerts can be delayed or missed. Force-quitting Money Owed can delay shared-account alerts until you open the app again. Notifications may appear on the Lock Screen and can show financial information outside the app.
Notifications are not arriving
- Confirm Money Owed Pro is active.
- Confirm Settings > Notifications > New transactions is on.
- Allow notifications for Money Owed in Settings on iPhone and iPad or System Settings on Mac.
- Confirm the transaction was added by another person in a shared account.
- Do not force-quit the app while waiting for an alert.
If notification access was denied, Money Owed asks you to allow notifications in Settings on iPhone and iPad or System Settings on Mac, then turn them on again in Money Owed.
App Lock
Enable App Lock
- Open Settings.
- Open App Lock.
- Turn on Require Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode.
- Choose when to ask again: Immediately, After 1 minute, After 5 minutes, or After 15 minutes.
App Lock requires Money Owed Pro and a usable device passcode or biometric authentication method. When App Lock is enabled, Money Owed is locked each time the app launches.
Unlock Money Owed
When locked, the app shows Money Owed is locked and an Unlock action. Use Face ID, Touch ID, or the device passcode. Cancelling leaves the lock screen available for another attempt. A failed attempt can show Couldn't unlock. Try again.
Privacy behavior
Money Owed blurs account information whenever the app is no longer onscreen, including in the app switcher. App Lock restricts access and adds this privacy blur, but it does not add a separate Money Owed encryption layer to data stored by the app.
App Lock is not available in the Apple Watch app or widgets. Apple controls the privacy behavior of those areas.
If authentication is unavailable
If the device no longer has a usable passcode or biometric authentication method, Money Owed disables App Lock rather than permanently blocking access to your accounts. Re-enable it after setting up a supported device authentication method.
Turn Features Off
Notifications and App Lock can be turned off even if Pro access is not currently recognized. Turning off notifications does not remove existing account data. Turning off App Lock removes the app access prompt but does not delete accounts or transactions.
