Money Owed provides Account Balance, Accounts, and Currency Balance widgets with Money Owed Pro. Open Money Owed to sync through iCloud and update its widgets.
Money Owed Pro Access
Widgets can show two different Pro access messages:
- If Pro is not active, the widget shows Money Owed Pro Required.
- If Pro access has not yet been verified, the widget asks you to open the main Money Owed app and retry.
Open Money Owed on the same iPhone, iPad, or Mac and allow its Pro access to update, then retry. If you already purchased Pro and it is still not active, open Settings > Money Owed Pro and choose Restore Purchases. Widgets hide account names and balances until Pro access is verified.
Available Widgets
Account Balance
Account Balance shows the balance for one selected account in that account's currency. Edit the widget, choose Select Account, and select an account.
On iPhone and iPad, Account Balance supports small, medium, and available inline, rectangular, and circular Lock Screen sizes. On Mac, it supports small and medium sizes.
If the selected account no longer exists, the widget shows the first available account.
Accounts
Accounts lists each account's balance separately. It never combines balances from different currencies. Edit it with Sort Accounts and Sort By, using the same choices as the main account list:
- Owed to You First
- You Owe First
- Largest Amount First
- Smallest Amount First
- Name (A-Z)
- Name (Z-A)
The medium Accounts widget shows up to two accounts. The large widget shows up to five. It can also show outstanding and settled counts and the number of currencies in use, but it does not produce a combined total.
Currency Balance
Currency Balance combines accounts that use one currency. It initially chooses your device's currency when that currency is in use, or the first available account currency otherwise. Edit the widget and use Select Currency to choose another. It shows the overall balance, total Owed to you, total You owe, and account count.
Only accounts with the widget's current currency are included. If that currency is no longer used by any account, the widget chooses an available currency automatically. If outstanding balances offset each other, the widget shows Overall balance is zero rather than Settled up.
Add a Widget
- Touch and hold the Home Screen or desktop.
- Choose the system option to add a widget.
- Search for Money Owed.
- Choose Account Balance, Accounts, or Currency Balance.
- Choose a widget size and add it.
- Edit the widget to select an account or sort order, or to choose a different currency.
Exact controls vary by Apple platform and widget size. Lock Screen widgets are not available on Mac.
How Widget Updates Work
After Pro access is verified, the main app updates the account information available to widgets whenever it saves or receives a change. The operating system decides exactly when a widget refreshes its display, so a short delay is normal.
A transaction added on Apple Watch must first sync through iCloud to the main app. The main app can then update the widget. Opening the main app can help it receive pending changes.
Privacy
Widgets can show account names and financial balances outside Money Owed. The operating system can hide this information in supported privacy-sensitive locations. Widgets use monograms and do not display account image files. Account information stays hidden until Pro access is verified.
Widget Troubleshooting
The widget says Money Owed Pro Required
The main app has confirmed that Pro is not active. Buy Money Owed Pro or restore an existing purchase in Settings > Money Owed Pro.
The widget asks me to open Money Owed and retry
Pro access has not yet been verified. Open the main Money Owed app on the same device, allow it to update, and retry the widget.
The widget says No accounts yet
Open Money Owed and create or sync an account, then return to the widget. If a selected account was deleted, the widget uses the first available account; edit it if you prefer another.
The widget says Choose an account
Edit the Account Balance widget and select an account. The Currency Balance widget chooses an available currency automatically and can be edited if you want a different one.
The widget says Balance unavailable
- Open Money Owed and allow it to sync.
- Confirm that Money Owed contains at least one account.
- Confirm that the account balance or currency total is not too large to display.
- Allow the operating system time to refresh the widget.
The widget shows old data
Open the main app, check for an iCloud warning, and allow sync to complete. Widgets do not sync through iCloud themselves. If the issue continues, remove and add the widget again, then check Troubleshooting Money Owed for sync steps.
