Welcome to Scaryfolio, a native Apple client for Ghostfolio. This guide explains the requirements, setup steps, and the main areas of the app.
What is Scaryfolio?
Scaryfolio connects directly to your Ghostfolio account or self-hosted Ghostfolio server. It lets you view portfolio performance, allocations, accounts, holdings, watchlist items, market benchmarks, and, with Scaryfolio Pro, manage portfolio data from iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Scaryfolio also includes widgets, portfolio notifications, and an Apple Watch companion app.
Scaryfolio is an unofficial third-party client and is not affiliated with Ghostfolio.
Requirements
- iPhone or iPad running iOS/iPadOS 17.0 or later, or Mac running macOS 14.0 or later
- Apple Watch running watchOS 10.0 or later for the Watch app
- A Ghostfolio account, either Ghostfolio Cloud or self-hosted
- Your Ghostfolio Security Token
- Ghostfolio 3.44.0 or newer
Quick Setup Guide
Step 1: Install Scaryfolio
Install Scaryfolio from the App Store on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac. For Apple Watch, install the companion app from the Watch app if it is not installed automatically.
Step 2: Open Settings
Open Scaryfolio and go to Settings. On Mac, use the Settings window from the app menu.
Step 3: Choose Your Ghostfolio Instance
- Ghostfolio Cloud: Use this if you connect to the official Ghostfolio service at ghostfol.io.
- Self-Hosted: Use this if you run your own Ghostfolio server.
Step 4: Enter Your Server URL for Self-Hosted
If you selected Self-Hosted, enter your Ghostfolio server URL. Scaryfolio supports http:// and https://. HTTPS is strongly recommended, especially when credentials are sent to the server.
Step 5: Add Custom Headers if Needed
If your self-hosted server is behind a proxy such as Cloudflare Access, Authelia, or Authentik, add the required custom HTTP headers in the Custom Headers section.
Step 6: Enter Your Security Token
Enter your Ghostfolio Security Token. Scaryfolio uses it to authenticate directly with Ghostfolio. Keep this token private.
Step 7: Connect
Tap or click Connect. After a successful connection, Settings shows a green Connected status.
Quick Start Guide
On first launch, Quick Start lets you choose whether to connect an existing Ghostfolio account or create a new Ghostfolio Cloud account. When you create an account, Scaryfolio connects it automatically and shows the Security Token once so you can store it safely. The final step can add optional sample data, open Ghostfolio on the web, or explain Scaryfolio Pro.
Main Features Overview
Portfolio
View your portfolio value, net worth, performance chart, performance summary, and account performance breakdowns. Available time ranges are 1D, WTD, MTD, YTD, 1Y, 5Y, and Max. Scaryfolio also includes chart modes for value and performance, a FIRE calculator, and Pro allocation dashboards grouped by holdings, asset class, sectors, regions, currencies, accounts, and platforms.
Portfolio Allocations
With Scaryfolio Pro, open the pie-chart button in Portfolio to explore how your portfolio is distributed by platform, currency, asset class, holding, sector, continent, market, country, account, and ETF provider. You can show, hide, reorder, and reset allocation sections in Settings > Personalization. Allocation charts use the whole portfolio rather than the selected performance range.
Accounts
Browse accounts, balances, holdings, cash balance history when visible, and activities. With Scaryfolio Pro, you can create and edit accounts, choose whether each account shows its cash balance, edit cash balances, add and edit activities, and delete accounts, holdings, transactions, and cash balance entries.
Watchlist
View securities on your Ghostfolio watchlist. With Scaryfolio Pro, you can search for symbols, add watchlist items, and remove items from contextual menus.
Markets
Monitor market benchmarks supplied by your Ghostfolio instance, including benchmark details, charts, trend indicators, and distance from all-time high where available.
Widgets
Scaryfolio Pro unlocks Portfolio, Performance, Portfolio Chart, FIRE, and Apple Watch widgets for supported iPhone, iPad, Mac, Lock Screen, and Apple Watch widget surfaces. iPhone also supports a Lock Screen inline Portfolio Gain widget. Open Scaryfolio and refresh portfolio data to update widgets. Widgets can be configured from the system widget editor where supported.
Spotlight and Shortcuts
Scaryfolio supports Spotlight account search and Apple Shortcuts actions. You can search for accounts from system search, open Portfolio, Allocations, Accounts, FIRE, Watchlist, Markets, or Settings, and build automations with portfolio and account data. Portfolio and account data actions require Scaryfolio Pro.
Apple Watch
Scaryfolio Pro unlocks Apple Watch access. The Watch configures itself automatically when it uses the same Apple Account and iCloud Keychain is enabled, then connects directly to Ghostfolio. Initial setup may take a few moments while iCloud synchronizes.
Settings
Manage your connection, Ghostfolio user settings such as Base Currency and Zen Mode, Pro licence, view options, personalization, allocation sections, notifications, app icon on iPhone and iPad where supported, privacy settings, support links, and version information.
iCloud Synchronization
Scaryfolio automatically synchronizes one Ghostfolio connection and selected cash visibility, display, tab, sorting, chart, FIRE, and allocation section settings across supported devices using the same Apple Account. Synchronization may take time. Connecting to a different Ghostfolio account replaces the shared connection, and Disconnect affects every device using that Apple Account. Portfolio data, notification status, and other device-specific state remain local.
Using Actions
Many edit, delete, and remove actions are available from contextual menus. On iPhone and iPad, touch and hold an item. On Mac, right-click or Control-click an item.
