What is Scaryfolio?
Scaryfolio is a native Apple app for Ghostfolio. It connects to Ghostfolio Cloud or your self-hosted Ghostfolio server so you can view and manage your portfolio from iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and widgets.
Is Scaryfolio an official Ghostfolio app?
No. Scaryfolio is an independent, third-party client for Ghostfolio. It uses Ghostfolio's API but is not developed or maintained by the Ghostfolio team.
Do I need a Ghostfolio account?
You need a Ghostfolio account on Ghostfolio Cloud or a self-hosted Ghostfolio instance. If you do not have one yet, Quick Start can create a new Ghostfolio Cloud account for you.
Can Scaryfolio create a Ghostfolio Cloud account?
Yes. Quick Start can create a new Ghostfolio Cloud account and connect it automatically. Scaryfolio shows the new Security Token once, so store it safely. You can also connect an existing account or use a self-hosted Ghostfolio instance.
Which platforms are supported?
- iPhone/iPad: iOS/iPadOS 17.0 or later
- Mac: macOS 14.0 or later
- Apple Watch: watchOS 10.0 or later, Scaryfolio Pro, and the same Apple Account used by a connected Scaryfolio device

Connection & Setup
What is my Security Token?
Your Security Token authorizes Scaryfolio to connect directly to Ghostfolio. Keep it private and replace it in Ghostfolio if you believe it has been exposed.
Can I use a self-hosted Ghostfolio instance?
Yes. Choose Self-Hosted in Settings and enter your Ghostfolio server URL. If your server requires proxy authentication, configure custom HTTP headers.
Can I use custom headers?
Yes, for self-hosted instances. You can add multiple custom headers for reverse proxies such as Cloudflare Access, Authelia, or Authentik. Headers are sent with Ghostfolio API requests.
Can I change my Ghostfolio base currency or Zen Mode?
Yes. After connecting, open Settings > Ghostfolio User Settings. You can update Base Currency and Zen Mode from Scaryfolio. These changes are saved back to Ghostfolio.
Why do I see "Portfolio not available"?
Ghostfolio Cloud may require a Ghostfolio Premium plan for portfolio API data. For self-hosted users, this can also happen if the server has no portfolio data, the selected time range has insufficient data, or Scaryfolio or your Ghostfolio server needs to be updated. Scaryfolio requires Ghostfolio 3.44.0 or later.
Is my data secure?
Scaryfolio connects directly to Ghostfolio and does not proxy portfolio data through a Scaryfolio server. Connection details synchronize securely through iCloud Keychain for devices using the same Apple Account, and selected cash visibility, display, tab, sorting, chart, and FIRE preferences synchronize through iCloud. Portfolio data remains on each device, and widgets display data previously loaded by Scaryfolio.

What does Scaryfolio Pro unlock?
Scaryfolio Pro unlocks write operations and advanced features, including:

What is included in the free version?
The free version provides read-only access to portfolio, accounts, holdings, watchlist, and markets where your Ghostfolio API permits it.
How do I purchase Scaryfolio Pro?
- Open Settings.
- Go to the Licence section.
- Select Scaryfolio Pro.
- Complete the App Store purchase.
How do I restore Pro?
- Make sure you are signed in with the Apple ID used for the purchase.
- Open Settings.
- Tap or click Restore Purchases.
Features & Usage
What time ranges are available?
Scaryfolio supports 1D, WTD, MTD, YTD, 1Y, 5Y, and Max. Apple Watch shows a compact subset: 1D, WTD, MTD, YTD, 1Y, and Max.
How often does data refresh?
Scaryfolio refreshes data as you open and use its screens. You can also manually refresh supported views when you need the latest information.
Can I customize the tabs?
Yes, with Scaryfolio Pro. Go to Settings > Personalization to show or hide Portfolio, Accounts, Watchlist, Markets, and the FIRE calculator entry point, and to customize allocation section visibility and order. You can also choose an accent color and, on iPhone, hide tab bar labels. At least one main tab must remain enabled. The FIRE calculator entry point is available only when the Portfolio tab is enabled.
Why do performance percentages differ from Ghostfolio or my expectations?
Scaryfolio can use Ghostfolio's investment-based percentage calculation or a period-based calculation. Change this in Settings > View Options with Scaryfolio Pro.
Can I show net worth instead of portfolio value?
Yes, with Scaryfolio Pro. Enable Show Net Worth in Settings > View Options.
Can I hide cash balances for an account?
Yes, with Scaryfolio Pro. When creating or editing an account, turn off Show Cash Balance to hide the account's cash balance card, history, and controls for changing the balance. Existing cash data is not deleted. A new account created with the setting disabled starts with a zero cash balance. The preference synchronizes through iCloud with your other Scaryfolio devices.
Can I customize the portfolio summary metrics?
Yes, with Scaryfolio Pro. Go to Settings > View Options > Portfolio Summary to choose the two lower metrics shown below your portfolio value, such as Range Gain, Range Return, Daily Gain, Daily Return, All-Time Gain, or All-Time Return.
What are Portfolio Allocations?
Portfolio Allocations is a Scaryfolio Pro view that breaks down your whole portfolio by platform, currency, asset class, holding, sector, continent, market, country, account, and ETF provider. Open it from the pie-chart button in Portfolio. The selected performance range does not change the allocation breakdown. Ghostfolio metadata determines which categories are available.
Can I use Scaryfolio with Spotlight, Siri, and Shortcuts?
Yes. Scaryfolio can show account results in Spotlight and provides actions for Shortcuts and Siri. Navigation actions, such as opening Portfolio, Allocations, Accounts, FIRE, Watchlist, Markets, or Settings, do not require Pro to open their destination. Portfolio and account data actions require Scaryfolio Pro. See the App Shortcuts article for the complete action list.
Can I create an end-of-day portfolio notification?
Yes, with Scaryfolio Pro. Open Settings > Notifications to enable the 1D, WTD, MTD, or YTD report you want, choose its schedule, and allow system notifications. Delivery depends on operating-system background execution and may be delayed. You can still use Shortcuts to build a separate custom automation if you prefer. Notifications may display financial values outside Scaryfolio, including on the Lock Screen.
How do I edit, delete, or remove items?
Many actions are available from contextual menus. On iPhone and iPad, touch and hold an account, holding, transaction, cash balance entry, or watchlist item. On Mac, right-click or Control-click the item. Choose the available action, such as Edit, Delete, or Remove.
Why is Watchlist unavailable or Premium Required?
Adding and removing watchlist items requires Scaryfolio Pro. Ghostfolio Cloud may also require Ghostfolio Premium for watchlist API access. On self-hosted instances, watchlist availability depends on your Ghostfolio version and configuration.
Why do some values show N/A?
With Scaryfolio Pro, View Options can replace zero change values with N/A and can show N/A for 1D changes on weekends. Check Settings > View Options > Portfolio Summary if this is not the display you expect.
Troubleshooting
What should I do if authentication fails?
- Verify your Security Token.
- For self-hosted instances, verify the URL and HTTPS certificate.
- Check any required custom headers.
- Confirm your Ghostfolio server is reachable from the device.
Why are widgets locked?
Widgets require Scaryfolio Pro. If you have Pro and widgets still appear locked, open Scaryfolio, restore purchases if needed, and refresh portfolio data.
Why does a portfolio data Shortcut require Pro?
Get Portfolio Value, Get Portfolio Gain, Get Portfolio Return, Get Portfolio Currency, and Get Portfolio Currency Symbol are Scaryfolio Pro features. Other Scaryfolio navigation shortcuts do not require Pro.
Why is Apple Watch waiting for iCloud?
Confirm that Scaryfolio Pro is active, Scaryfolio is connected on a supported device using the same Apple Account, and iCloud Keychain is enabled. Open Scaryfolio on both devices and allow time for iCloud to synchronize. Manual iPhone-to-Watch synchronization is not required.
Does Scaryfolio synchronize more than one connection?
No. One Apple Account has one shared Scaryfolio connection. Connecting to a different Ghostfolio account replaces it on every device, and Disconnect removes it from every device.
Which preferences synchronize?
Cash visibility, display, tab, sorting, chart, FIRE, accent color, tab-label, and allocation section settings synchronize automatically. Portfolio data, bearer tokens, notification status, and other device-specific state remain local.
How do I report a bug or request a feature?
Use the support links in Scaryfolio Settings to open the knowledge base or submit a support ticket.
