Use this guide to troubleshoot common Scaryfolio issues.
Connection Issues
Connect Button is Disabled
- Enter a Security Token.
- For self-hosted servers, enter a server URL.
Authentication Failed
- Copy your Ghostfolio Security Token again.
- Remove extra spaces before or after the token.
- If the token has expired or changed, generate or copy a fresh token in Ghostfolio.
- For self-hosted servers, verify the URL and custom headers.
Cannot Connect to Self-Hosted Server
- Open the Ghostfolio URL in Safari on the same device.
- Confirm the server is running and reachable from your network.
- Check firewall, DNS, VPN, reverse proxy, and port settings.
- If using HTTPS, use a valid HTTPS certificate.
- If using Cloudflare Access, Authelia, Authentik, or another proxy, verify all custom headers.
Portfolio Not Available
- Ghostfolio Cloud: Portfolio API data may require Ghostfolio Premium.
- Self-hosted: Ensure your instance has portfolio data and a compatible API response.
- Try another time range such as Max.
- Refresh the Portfolio screen.
Data & Display Issues
Data Not Updating
- Manually refresh the affected screen.
- Open Scaryfolio again after a minute; core data refreshes when stale.
- Check the same data in Ghostfolio's web interface.
- Disconnect and reconnect if the bearer token cannot refresh.
Watchlist or Markets Not Updating
Watchlist and Markets data refreshes when opened and after it has been idle for about one hour. Use manual refresh if you need the latest data sooner.
Incorrect Currency
Scaryfolio reads your base currency from Ghostfolio user settings. Verify your Ghostfolio base currency and reconnect if it changed recently.
Base Currency or Zen Mode Does Not Save
- Open Settings > Ghostfolio User Settings and try saving again.
- Check that your Ghostfolio server is reachable.
- Reconnect if authentication may have expired.
- For self-hosted instances, verify that your Ghostfolio version supports updating user settings through the API.
Missing Accounts
- Check whether the account is excluded from analysis.
- With Pro, enable Settings > View Options > Show Excluded Accounts.
- Confirm the account exists in Ghostfolio.
Unexpected Performance Percentages
Scaryfolio can show investment-based or period-based returns. With Pro, adjust this in Settings > View Options > Investment-Based Returns.
Pro Issues
Pro Features Still Locked After Purchase
- Wait a few seconds for purchase status to update.
- Close and reopen Scaryfolio.
- Open Settings and tap Restore Purchases.
- Confirm you are signed in with the Apple ID used for purchase.
Cannot Restore Purchases
- Check your App Store Apple ID.
- Check your purchase history.
- Try again on a stable network.
Cannot Disable a Tab
Personalization requires Pro when hiding tabs. At least one main tab must remain enabled, so the last enabled tab cannot be disabled.
Activity & Account Issues
Cannot Find Edit, Delete, or Remove Actions
Many actions are available from contextual menus instead of visible buttons. On iPhone and iPad, touch and hold an item. On Mac, right-click or Control-click an item. Contextual menus can appear for accounts, holdings, activities, cash balance entries, and watchlist items where actions are available.
Cannot Save an Account
- Creating and editing accounts requires Pro.
- Enter an account name.
- Select a currency.
- Enter a valid initial balance.
Cannot Add or Edit an Activity
- Activity write operations require Pro.
- Check required fields such as type, date, quantity, unit price or total price, and fee where those fields are shown.
- For buy, sell, and dividend activities, select a symbol.
- For fee, interest, liability, or valuable activities without a symbol, enter a name.
- Use the correct decimal separator for your region.
- Verify the selected symbol exists in Ghostfolio.
Symbol Search Finds No Results
- Search by ticker symbol and company name.
- Confirm the symbol is available in Ghostfolio.
- Some securities may not be available from the configured data source.
Watchlist Shows Premium Required or Feature Unavailable
- Adding and removing watchlist items requires Scaryfolio Pro.
- Ghostfolio Cloud may require Ghostfolio Premium for watchlist API access.
- For self-hosted Ghostfolio, verify that your instance supports the watchlist API.
- Refresh the Watchlist tab after resolving account or server access issues.
Widget Issues
Widget Shows Pro Required
Widgets require Scaryfolio Pro. Open Scaryfolio, restore purchases if needed, then refresh portfolio data.
Widget Shows Not Connected
Open Scaryfolio and connect to Ghostfolio. Widgets read cached app data and cannot complete initial setup by themselves.
Widget Data is Outdated
- Open Scaryfolio to refresh portfolio data.
- Widget timelines update periodically under system control.
- Make sure background refresh is allowed for Scaryfolio where applicable.
- For the FIRE widget, open the FIRE calculator in Scaryfolio so FIRE settings and projections can be cached.
Shortcuts & Spotlight Issues
Scaryfolio Actions Do Not Appear in Shortcuts
- Open Scaryfolio at least once after installing or updating it.
- Open the Shortcuts app and search for Scaryfolio again.
- Restart the device if the system has not refreshed available App Intents.
- Check that your device is running a supported OS version.
Portfolio Data Shortcut Requires Pro
Get Portfolio Value, Get Portfolio Gain, Get Portfolio Return, Get Portfolio Currency, and Get Portfolio Currency Symbol require Scaryfolio Pro. Other Scaryfolio navigation shortcuts do not require Pro.
Portfolio Data Shortcut Says to Sign In
Open Scaryfolio, connect to Ghostfolio in Settings, and confirm that portfolio data loads before running the shortcut again.
Portfolio Value or Gain Shortcut is Unavailable
Ghostfolio Zen Mode can hide absolute values. Disable Zen Mode in Ghostfolio User Settings if you want value and gain shortcuts to return absolute amounts.
Spotlight Does Not Find an Account
- Open Scaryfolio and refresh account data.
- Confirm the account is not excluded from analysis.
- Wait for the system Spotlight index to refresh.
- Try searching by account name, currency, Account, Account Value, Cash Balance, or Scaryfolio.
Apple Watch Issues
Watch App Says to Open iPhone
- Connect Scaryfolio on iPhone first.
- Make sure Scaryfolio Pro is active.
- Open iPhone Settings in Scaryfolio and tap Sync to Apple Watch.
- Keep the iPhone and Apple Watch nearby.
Watch Data is Outdated
- Open the Watch app to trigger a refresh.
- Check that the Watch has internet access through iPhone, Wi-Fi, or cellular.
- Confirm your Ghostfolio server is reachable.
