GameGoblin includes two static WidgetKit configurations for supported iPhone, iPad, and Mac widget surfaces: Achievement Showcase and Currently Playing.
Achievement Showcase
Achievement Showcase presents up to twelve earned achievements across your games. The newest dated unlock is featured first, followed by the remaining available unlocks in the widget's compact layout. Medium widgets show up to six icons, while large widgets show up to twelve in two rows.
The widget can show provider identity, game progress, achievement icons, trophy grades, provider points, and earned dates when the app has that information. Missing artwork uses a deterministic fallback.
Currently Playing
Currently Playing uses the same Now Playing membership and order as Home's Continue Playing. Ignored games are excluded. The widget prefers hero artwork and falls back to cover art, then shows platform or console identity and normalized progress when available.
Small, medium, and large families use different compositions. Smaller layouts feature one game, while larger layouts can include a compact queue of additional games.
GameGoblin Pro Access
Live widget content requires active GameGoblin Pro access. When access is inactive, the widget shows a shared locked state. When access is unknown, GameGoblin fails closed for widget content rather than treating an uncertain purchase response as active.
Widget selector previews remain available to everyone so you can evaluate the layouts before subscribing.
How Widgets Update
The GameGoblin app prepares a bounded local snapshot and asks WidgetKit to reload the affected configuration when visible data changes. Open GameGoblin after a provider sync or CloudKit update to give the app an opportunity to prepare fresh content.
Widgets do not:
- Sign in to a gaming provider
- Read gaming credentials from Keychain
- Open the GameGoblin SwiftData or CloudKit store directly
- Make provider network requests
- Load new artwork from the network
- Schedule their own background synchronization
Because the snapshot is prepared by the app, widget content can remain stale while GameGoblin has not run.
Opening a Game from a Widget
Live widget items can open their exact owning game in GameGoblin. The app verifies the stored game identity before presenting it. Locked, empty, selector-sample, and legacy items do not open a game.
If a game was removed after a widget snapshot was prepared, GameGoblin shows a non-destructive unavailable state rather than opening a different game.
Adding a Widget
- Long-press the Home Screen or Control Center widget area.
- Choose Add Widget.
- Search for GameGoblin.
- Choose Achievement Showcase or Currently Playing.
- Select a supported size and add the widget.
On Mac, add the widget through the macOS widget gallery. Open GameGoblin after installation so it can prepare the first live snapshot.
Reset and Privacy
Reset All Data clears GameGoblin's widget snapshots. Widget snapshots contain bounded display data prepared by the app, not provider credentials or direct provider sessions. Remove the widget from the system when you no longer want its content visible.
