This article gives a high-level explanation of GameGoblin's data controls. The external Privacy Policy is the authoritative legal explanation of data processing:
Read the GameGoblin Privacy Policy
Gaming Platform Connections
GameGoblin connects directly to supported provider services where the provider contract permits it. Keyed Steam operations use GameGoblin's narrow authenticated service; public Steam catalog, artwork, and Wishlist requests remain provider requests. GameGoblin does not ask you to paste a Steam API key into the app.
PlayStation and Xbox sign-in use system authentication flows. RetroAchievements requires the username and Web API key that you enter in the connection form. GameGoblin is an independent client and does not represent that it is affiliated with any gaming provider.
Credentials and Tokens
Gaming-platform credentials are stored in Apple's synchronizable Keychain so a connected account can be restored on another device using the same Apple Account. Provider access tokens are kept in memory and are not stored in the GameGoblin library.
Never share a password, passkey, Web API key, refresh token, or authentication code with support. GameGoblin support does not need those values to diagnose an ordinary issue.
Game Library and iCloud
GameGoblin stores synchronized library and account records in the app's private iCloud/CloudKit data. This can include game titles, provider identities, catalog metadata, artwork references, achievement progress, trophy information, guides, and presentation preferences needed to reproduce your library on another device.
Some operational state remains device-local, including sync checkpoints, automatic refresh cadence, notification authorization, release-reminder enablement, and transient interface state.
Widgets
The app prepares bounded widget snapshots in the shared app-group storage used by the GameGoblin widget extension. Widgets do not read credentials, access the SwiftData or CloudKit store directly, call gaming providers, or load network images. Widget content can remain visible until the app prepares a newer snapshot or Reset All Data clears it.
Widgets can display game titles, artwork, achievement information, platform identity, and progress outside the main app. Remove widgets when that display is not appropriate.
Purchases and GameGoblin Pro
Apple and RevenueCat process the purchase and entitlement information needed for GameGoblin Pro. GameGoblin uses an anonymous RevenueCat identity for purchase operations. GameGoblin does not send gaming credentials, provider libraries, game titles, or CloudKit records to RevenueCat for the Pro entitlement.
Support Requests
When you choose Submit a Support Request, the form includes the GameGoblin product and the current Apple platform so support can route the request. When GameGoblin Pro is actively recognized, the form can also include the anonymous RevenueCat original App User ID to help investigate entitlement issues. Free, inactive, and unknown entitlement states omit that identifier.
Support requests are handled by Zendesk. Include only the diagnostic information needed to explain the issue. Do not include passwords, passkeys, API keys, refresh tokens, authentication codes, or private account exports.
Disconnecting a Platform
Disconnect removes the selected platform's GameGoblin account, games, credentials, sync checkpoint, status data, issues, and related app-owned state. It does not delete the external gaming-provider account or affect other connected platforms.
Reset All Data
Reset All Data removes GameGoblin's app-owned local and private iCloud library, platform credentials, synchronized presentation preferences, checkpoints, reminders, caches, widget snapshots, registered services, and in-memory sessions.
Reset does not cancel App Store purchases, remove RevenueCat purchase history, delete external gaming-provider accounts, or erase provider-owned browser cookies that are outside GameGoblin's data store.
Your Controls
- Connect only the gaming platforms you want to use.
- Re-authenticate a saved account without deleting its library when GameGoblin requests it.
- Disconnect one platform from Settings > Accounts.
- Disable release reminders in Settings > Notifications.
- Remove widgets from the system widget editor.
- Use Reset All Data when you intend to remove all GameGoblin app-owned data.
