This article covers the features that make a game in your library your own: notes, custom artwork, completion certificates, and the Gaming Passport.
Game Notes
Each game can have one note for your own thoughts, such as tips, goals, or where you stopped. Notes appear in the Notes card on Game Detail.
Write or edit a note
- Open a game in Game Detail.
- In the Notes card, choose Add Note, or Edit if the game already has one.
- Write in the Edit tab and check the result in the Preview tab.
- Choose Save.
A note can hold up to 20,000 characters, and the editor shows how many you have used. If you leave with unsaved changes, GameGoblin asks whether to discard them or keep editing. To remove a note, choose Clear Note.
Markdown
Notes use Markdown, and a single new line stays a line break. Headings, bold and italic text, lists, quotes, code, and links to web pages are supported. Tables, task lists, and HTML appear as plain text. Images are never loaded: an image link appears as a link labelled with its description.
Notes and sync
- Notes synchronize through iCloud with the rest of your library.
- If you edit the same note on two devices, the most recent edit wins.
- Clearing a note removes its text from every device that uses your iCloud library.
- Provider syncs never read, change, or delete notes.
- A note belongs to its game. Disconnecting a platform or using Reset All Data removes the games and their notes.
Notes and GameGoblin Pro
Writing and editing notes requires GameGoblin Pro. Without Pro, the Add Note and Edit buttons show a lock and open the Pro options. Existing notes stay readable if Pro access ends, and they are never deleted.
The Notes card is one of the Game Detail blocks. With Pro, you can show, hide, or reorder it in Settings > Customize > Game Detail.
Custom Artwork
You can replace a game's cover and hero artwork with your own choice. Provider artwork is never changed, so you can always go back to it.
Change a game's artwork
- Open a game in Game Detail.
- Open Game Actions and choose Customize Artwork.
- Choose the cover (shown in your Library) or the hero image (shown as the Game Detail background).
- Pick an image from Photos, or pick one of the game's gallery images.
- Choose Save.
To undo a change, choose Restore Default for that image and save. GameGoblin prepares chosen images for display and stores them without their camera or location metadata. Custom artwork synchronizes through iCloud.
If a device was offline when you restored the default, it can briefly bring an older custom image back when it reconnects. Restore the default again to remove it.
Saving custom artwork requires GameGoblin Pro. Existing custom artwork is kept if Pro access ends.
Completion Certificates
A completion certificate is a shareable image or printable page for a game in Done. It is available to everyone.
Create a certificate
- Open a game that is in Done.
- Open Game Actions and choose Completion Certificate.
- Choose a format: Social Image or Printable PDF.
- Choose Share, Print when available, or Export File.
What the certificate claims
A certificate states only what your stored data proves:
- Completed: the game was marked Done manually, or completion could not be verified.
- 100% Complete: verified complete achievement or trophy progress.
- Mastered: verified RetroAchievements Hardcore completion.
The completion date uses the best finish date GameGoblin knows. Time to Completion appears only when the achievement dates prove the span; GameGoblin omits it rather than estimate.
Certificate details
You can choose whether to include a player name, the completion date, and the time to completion. These choices apply only to the file you are exporting and are not saved. Showing or hiding the completion date and time to completion requires GameGoblin Pro; the player name option and exporting do not.
Certificates are created on your device. GameGoblin does not upload them, and they never include your provider account IDs.
Gaming Passport
The Gaming Passport is a booklet that collects one stamp for every game you finish. It is a GameGoblin Pro feature.
Open your passport
The Passport card appears on Home. Select it to open the passport. You can also open a finished game's Game Actions menu and choose View in Passport. Without Pro, the Passport card on Home is a teaser with an Unlock button that opens the Pro options.
The passport has a front cover, a holder page, pages for your connected services, stamp pages, summary pages, and a back cover. Select a stamp to see its game, and choose Open Game to go to that game.
How stamps are earned
- Each game in Done that is not Ignored can have one stamp.
- The first time you open the passport on any device, every game already in Done is stamped.
- Games you finish later appear as new stamps and wait until you open the passport, where you can stamp them one at a time or all at once with Stamp All.
- The stamp level and date follow the game's completion certificate, so a stamp never claims more than the certificate.
- Stamps synchronize through iCloud, so a game is stamped once across all your devices.
- A game that leaves Done and returns keeps its stamp.
- Ignoring a game hides its stamp from the passport. Restoring the game brings the stamp back.
Customize your passport
Open the passport options (the ... button) to change Order Stamps (By Date or By Platform) or Cover. Choose Customize Passport... to set a holder name, or choose Use Account Name to go back to the default. The cover themes are Goblin Green, Midnight Navy, Crimson, Obsidian, Ember, and Amethyst. Jump to Latest Stamp takes you to your newest stamp.
The holder name, cover, and stamp order synchronize through iCloud. Passport pages show provider names and statistics but never provider account IDs. The passport number is decorative and is not a provider account number.
Layout
The passport shows two pages side by side when they fit comfortably and one page otherwise. Rotating your device, folding it, or resizing the window keeps your place.
If Pro access ends
Your stamps, holder name, and cover are kept and return when Pro access is active again. Until then, Home shows the teaser card.
