One of the best features of GIF Vault is the iMessage Extension, which allows you to access and send your saved GIFs directly from the Apple Messages app without having to switch back and forth between apps.
How to Access the iMessage Extension
To enable and open GIF Vault in Messages:
- Open the Messages app on your iPhone or iPad and select a chat conversation.
- Tap the App Store icon or the Plus (+) button next to the text entry field to open the app drawer.
- Scroll through your list of iMessage apps and tap the GIF Vault icon (a stylized locker).
- If you do not see it: Scroll to the end of the app drawer, tap More (or Manage), and make sure the toggle next to GIF Vault is turned ON.
Sending GIFs in Conversations
Once you tap the GIF Vault app drawer icon, a compact panel will appear at the bottom of your screen:
- Shared Database: The extension accesses the exact same vault as the main app. Any GIFs you import, delete, or tag in the main app will be instantly updated in Messages.
- Grid Layout: You can scroll through your collection of GIFs in a compact layout.
- Inserting a GIF: Tap on the GIF you want to send. Your device will provide a subtle haptic feedback vibration to confirm the selection, and the GIF will be inserted directly into your text input field.
- Automatic Collapse: After inserting the GIF, the extension automatically collapses back to its compact mode so you can see your chat screen clearly.
- Send: Tap the blue send arrow to send your GIF!
💡 Tip: If your vault is empty, the extension will display the message "No GIFs in your vault yet". To get started, open the main GIF Vault app and import some media!
