Tags are descriptive keywords such as happy, facepalm, or cats. An image can have several tags, and the same tag can be assigned to many images.
Adding and Removing Tags on an Image
- Open an image from the main Vault grid.
- Scroll to Tags and tap Manage.
- To assign an existing tag, tap it under Other Tags. To create a tag, enter its name in New tag name and tap Add.
- To remove an assignment, tap the tag under On This Image. This removes the tag from this image but does not delete the tag or image.
- Close the sheet when you have finished making changes.
You can make several changes without closing the sheet. Typing in the field also filters Other Tags, making an existing tag easier to find. Tag names cannot contain spaces.
Managing Tags Across Your Vault
Open Settings > Maintenance > Manage Tags to see every tag and how many images use it. From here you can:
- Tap a tag, or swipe and choose Rename, to rename it.
- Rename a tag to an existing name to merge the two tags. Their image assignments are combined after you confirm the merge.
- Swipe and choose Delete to remove a tag from every image. The images themselves are not deleted.
- Tap Delete Unused Tags to remove tags that are not assigned to any image.
Searching by Tag
- Pull down on the main Vault grid to reveal the search bar.
- Enter all or part of a tag name.
- The grid updates to show images assigned to matching tags.
- Search is not case-sensitive:
LOLmatcheslol. - Search ignores diacritics:
cafematchescafé. - Multiple terms use an any match. For example,
happy catsshows images whose tags match either term.
Search limitation: Vault search currently searches tag names only. It does not search notes, filenames, or image contents.
